Why Replace Fluorescent Light bulbs With LED

For a long time, fluorescent lights were the industry standard. The long, hot bulbs would flicker with their trademark hum over our heads. They were a staple in every home, department store, and office building. But there are a lot of drawbacks to fluorescent lights to keep in mind when considering your lighting needs.

They Are Less Efficient

Fluorescent light bulbs are considerably less efficient than LED lights. System efficiency is defined as the amount of light that actually reaches the target area after all losses are accounted for. Standard fluorescent lighting typically falls under 30 lumens/watt whereas most LED’s come in at more than 50 lumens per watt. Think of all that savings on energy costs. Lessening your carbon footprint never felt so good.

Fluorescent Bulbs Don’t Last As Long

A typical fluorescent bulb may last a few months at most if care is taken to turn it off whenever it’s not in use. In comparison, a typical LED light can last years on end, even with heavy usage. What’s even better is when an LED closes in on its end of lifespan it becomes gradually dimmer, allowing for replacement prior to complete failure. A fluorescent bulb typically fails immediately meaning the bulb simply burns out without any advance notice.

Fluorescent and Incandescent Bulbs Run Hot

All those traditional bulbs running overhead emit heat, which adds up. This heat puts an additional strain on your air conditioner and results in an inflated electric bill. This can also create wiring malfunctions and fire safety concerns, making upgrading to LED an easy choice.

Fluorescent Lights Contain Mercury

Mercury is a highly poisonous substance, and most compact fluorescent light bulbs are filled with it. Long exposure to mercury can lead to serious health complications. Disposing of CFLs is therefore a very delicate process, especially hazardous in confined workspaces.

They Are Not As Durable As LED Lights

Not only are CFLs very easy to break, but they also don’t last very long. Property owners may find themselves replacing hundreds of lightbulbs per year. This can be very expensive. Also, considering the dangerous height of lights installed in most warehouses and industrial properties, it is not safe to change them so frequently.

Why Use LED Lighting?

These days, we are seeing more and more business and property owners get rid of their fluorescent lighting and make the switch to LED lighting. Below are just some of the perks of LED lights.

Cost-effective

After installing LED lights on your property, you will notice an immediate increase in your monthly savings. LEDs are 30%-50% more energy-efficient than compact fluorescent lightbulbs and 80-90% more energy-efficient than incandescent or halogen lighting. Depending on the size of your property, this will drastically improve your overhead.

Long-lasting

LED lights are built to last, so you won’t have to replace them nearly as often as you would other lighting sources. These bulbs have an average lifespan of 50,000 hours, which makes all the difference if you run a facility in which the lights must be constantly on.

Safe and Friendly to the Environment

LED lights contain no poisonous chemicals or materials that would be considered hazardous to the environment or the people working underneath them. Neither do they emit or UV ultraviolet radiation.
